U.S. National Team News Release
LINCOLN, Neb. - John Gibson (Pittsburgh, Pa.) made 37 saves, but the U.S. National Under-17 Team was blanked by the Lincoln Stars, 2-0, here tonight.
After the first period ended in a scoreless tie, Ryan Dzingel broke the deadlock at 8:02 of the second stanza after converting on a feed from Kyle Gibbons. Gibson made a combined 29 saves in the opening 40 minutes of play to keep the U.S. deficit to just one goal.
Despite putting nine shots on the Lincoln net in the final frame, Team USA was unable to solve netminder Matt Green. Tyler Deresky scored a shorthanded goal with 3:35 remaining in regulation to account for the 2-0 final.
The U.S. National Under-17 Team returns to home ice Friday (March 26) to take on the Youngstown Phantoms at 7:05 p.m. EST.
