KEARNEY, Neb. - Reid Boucher (Grand Ledge, Mich.) notched two tallies during a four-goal second period by the U.S. National Under-17 Team in its 4-1 victory over the Tri-City Storm here tonight.
The first period ended in a scoreless tie, with U.S. netminder John Gibson (Pittsburgh, Pa.) making several key saves for the U.S. He stopped all 17 shots he saw in the opening frame.
Team USA wasted little time jumping out to a 1-0 lead just 18 seconds into the second stanza after Travis Boyd (Hopkins, Minn.) fed J.T. Miller (East Palestine, Ohio) who one-timed a shot past Carsen Chubak from the high slot. The U.S. doubled its advantage when Boucher picked up the loose puck in front of the net and snapped it past Chubak at 6:03. Boucher added his second goal with a power-play marker at 17:40 after knocking home his own rebound. With just one minute to play in the middle period, Boyd chipped the puck into the net to make it 4-0 after a scramble in front left Chubak out of position.
Radislav Illo broke Tri-City's scoring drought at the 9:07 mark of the final frame, but Gibson made 13 saves throughout the closing 20 minutes to allow Team USA to skate away with a 4-1 win.
Gibson finished the night with 38 saves.
The U.S. National Under-17 Team will take on the Lincoln Stars Saturday at 7:05 p.m. CST at the Lincoln Ice Box.
