Five Former Pippins Selected in MLB Draft

YAKIMA, Wash. - Five former Yakima Valley Pippins were among the more than 65 players from the West Coast League selected in this year's Major League Baseball draft.

Leading the Pippins selections is Kenny Rosenberg (Cal State Northridge), who was selected by the Tampa Bay Rays in the eighth round. Rosenberg was 3-2 with four saves for the Pippins in 2014, striking out 44 batters with an ERA of 1.47 in 36.2 innings pitched.

Vince Fernandez (UC Riverside), the WCL's most valuable player in 2014, was selected in the 10th round by the Colorado Rockies. Fernandez batted .359 with 61 hits, including 13 doubles, three triples and 10 home runs, and drove in 51 runs for the Pippins in their inaugural season.

Taylor Snyder (Colorado State-Pueblo) also was drafted by the Rockies, in the 13th round. Snyder hit .202 for the 2014 Pippins, with two doubles, two triples and 10 RBIs.

J.R. Davis (Oklahoma State) and Wyatt Mills (Gonzaga), who both played for the 2015 Pippins, were picked in the 15th and 17th rounds, respectively.

Davis, selected by the St. Louis Cardinals, hit .327 with 12 RBIs in 15 games for Yakima Valley.

Mills, picked by Tampa Bay, was 2-1 with 10 saves in 26.2 innings pitched, and boasted a team-leading 1.01 ERA with the Pippins.
