New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
MANCHESTER, NH - With 7,589 sets of eyes watching, the Fisher Cats (10-12) fell behind early only to rally for a dramatic 4-3 walk-off win over the Trenton Thunder (10-12) on Sunday afternoon at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium. Brad McElroy drove home the winning run to give the Fisher Cats their second consecutive series victory in front of a packed house on a Reading Challenge Day presented by the Community College System of New Hampshire.
The winning rally began innocently with a lead-off walk to Mike McDade in the ninth, but was seriously compounded by a Trenton error to put runners at first and second with nobody out. A perfect bunt from John Tolisano loaded the bases for A.J. Jimenez, who delivered a run-scoring single to right field to tie the game at 3-3. Moments later, McElroy bounced a ground ball over the drawn-in infield to plate Mark Sobolewski for the game-deciding run.
The ninth inning saw the Fisher Cats accumulate three hits, nearly as many as they compiled through the first eight innings of the game. Jimenez had two of the seven total hits, adding his second homer of the season an inning earlier against starter Brett Marshall (ND).
Ryan Goins had a good day for New Hampshire, which overcame 2-0 and 3-1 deficits. The shortstop smashed his first Double-A home run in the fourth inning, becoming the first Fisher Cat to reach base against Marshall in the process. Goins has hit safely in five straight and his hitting .381 over his last ten games.
Chad Jenkins (ND) took a no-decision for the Fisher Cats, allowing three runs over six innings. Clint Everts (W; 1-0) earned the win by working three scoreless innings.
The Fisher Cats now welcome in the Reading Phillies (Philadelphia Phillies) for the start of a four-game series on Monday night.
