
Fisher Cats get season-high 23 hits in 17-10 win over Sea Dogs

Manchester, NH- Ryan Klosterman led a season-high 23-hit attack by going 4-for-4 with a three-run home run, five RBI, four runs, two walks and a stolen base as the New Hampshire Fisher Cats thumped the Portland Sea Dogs, 17-10, before a crowd of 3,462 Monday night at Merchantsauto.com Stadium. The 17 runs were the most scored by the Fisher Cats this season and capped a four-game series that saw New Hampshire outscore Portland, 50-47.
New Hampshire (21-35) went ahead 2-1 in the bottom of the second inning against losing pitcher Daniel Haigwood (2-1) on RBI singles from Brian Jeroloman (2-for-5, HR, 3 RBI, 3 R, BB) and Chris Gutierrez (3-for-7, 2 2B, 3 RBI, R).
After falling behind 5-2 in the top of the third inning, the Fisher Cats answered with four more runs in the bottom of the third against Haigwood (2.2 IP, 6 R, ER, 8 H, 3 K, 3 BB). Scott Campbell (3-for-6, 2B, RBI) had an RBI single, Klosterman added a run-scoring double and Gutierrez drove in two runs with a double, giving the Fisher Cats a 6-5 lead.
Klosterman tagged Kyle Jackson for a three-run home run, his fifth, in the bottom of the fourth inning to give the Fisher Cats a 9-5 lead.
New Hampshire added four more runs against Jackson (2.1 IP, 7 R, 5 ER, 6 H, 4 BB, 3 K) in the fifth inning on run-scoring ground outs from Jacob Butler (2-for-5, 2 RBI, 2 R, BB) and Josh Kreuzer (2-for-5, 2B, RBI, 3 R, BB, SB), a sacrifice fly by Ryan Patterson (3-for-5, SF, 2B, RBI, 3 R) and a fielding error by Jeff Corsaletti, giving the Fishers a 13-7 lead.
Butler drove in his second run of the game with a single against Miguel Ascencio in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Klosterman hit another RBI single and Jeroloman belted his fourth home run of the season, a two-run shot, off Chad Rhoades in the home half of the seventh inning to cap New Hampshire's best offensive showing of the season.
Scott Richmond (4-5) became the first Fisher Cats' starting pitcher to reach the four-victory plateau. The right-hander worked five innings, allowing five runs -four earned- on five hits. He struck out six and walked two.
Jeff Corsaletti (3-for-6, HR, 3 RBI, 2 R), Bubba Bell (1-for-5, HR, 3 RBI) and Tony Granadillo (3-for-5, HR, 2 RBI, 2 R, BB) all hit home runs for Portland (34-22).
The Fisher Cats open a three-game series against the Akron Aeros, the Double-A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians, Tuesday night at Merchantsauto.com Stadium. New Hampshire sends left-hander Brett Cecil (0-1, 4.63) to the mound against Akron right-hander Frank Herrmann (5-3, 4.68) at 7:05pm. Radio coverage begins at 6:45pm on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network with Bob Lipman and Mike Murphy.
There will be a pre-game parade featuring more than 1,000 students who participated in the Community College System of New Hampshire Fisher Cats Reading Challenge. The Fisher Cats will also honor the memory of Conant High School Student-Athlete Stephen Record on Tuesday night by wearing Conant High School t-shirts under their sleeveless uniforms.
