
'Fish Flop Against Southern Maryland

(Bridgeport, Conn. - June 29, 2011) - A nine-run first inning led the charge for Southern Maryland (30-23) as the Bridgeport Bluefish (25-27) lost by a score of 14-2 on Wednesday night at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard.
During the nine-run inning, Iggy Suarez had a bases clearing double for the Blue Crabs. There were 14 batters that came to the plate during that stretch.
On the night, Yunesky Sanchez had hits in all three plate appearances for the Southern Maryland and drove in four. Jeremy Owens went 3-for-5 in the contest and had two RBI on the night. Brandon Pinckney scored three runs and was 3-5 on Wednesday.
Paul Oseguera (4-2) was knocked out in the first inning after retiring two batters. The southpaw allowed suffered the loss after allowing nine runs (five earned) in his start for Bridgeport. Miguel Mejia, Jose Rodriguez and Chris Rivera combined to throw the final eight-and-a-third innings for the 'Fish.
Michael Schlact (3-0) picked up the victory for the Blue Crabs as he pitched six innings and surrendered two runs. The righthanded starter allowed a two-run shot to left center, in the fifth, to Brock Peterson. The shot was Peterson's third of the season. Joe Gannon pitched the final three frames to pick up his first save of the year.
The Bluefish finish a series at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Thursday, June 30 against the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05. The gates open one hour before first pitch. Thirsty Thursday is presented by Budweiser.
