Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release
Fans taking in a Goldeyes game this summer will notice that CanWest Global Park isn't the only thing that has changed.
To commemorate their 10th Northern League season, the Goldeyes will sport new uniforms this summer. The new duds were unveiled today as outfielders Brent Sachs and Charles Peterson showed off the home and road uniforms in a noon-hour news conference in the clubhouse.
"You only get to celebrate you're tenth year in business once and we will do so this year in a big way," said president & CEO Sam Katz. "And because our fans have been such a huge part of why we're still here 10 years later, a lot of what we'll do this year in terms of giveaways and promotions will be done with them in mind."
The all-white home uniform has been tweaked a little. The players will again wear white pants and a red belt, but the jersey will have red sleeves. The front will still feature the word Goldeyes in red with navy trim, but the script will be different. The players will also wear an all-red cap, replacing the navy cap with red brim.
The road uniform, which had been a navy top, cap and belt with grey pants, will maintain the grey pants and navy belt and cap. But the jersey is now grey with navy sleeves. The front will again feature the word Winnipeg, but in navy with red trim instead of red with white trim and with different script. The backs will also feature a name bar for the first time since 1997.
All jerseys will have a Winnipeg Goldeyes Field of Dreams Foundation patch on the left sleeve and a 10th anniversary patch on the right.
The change is just one the club has made to mark this milestone. It has also profiled fans, players and even actor Rob Lowe in the 2003 season ticket book, has created an All-Goldeyes Team fans can vote for on the club's goldeyes.com website and will give away a poster to salute the players recognized as the franchise's best.
All this will happen in a ballpark that has grown since last season, as capacity has jumped from 6,266 to 7,481. Other changes include six more concessions and as many new skysuites, a patio deck, a mother's lounge, more washrooms and a grass berm to accommodate some 300 fans as overflow seating.
