First Round Pick Coming To Fort Wayne

Fort Wayne, IN - A tumble over the short right field wall on Friday night, trying to prevent a home run against the Lansing Lugnuts (Toronto Blue Jays affiliate), has landed outfielder Shane Buschini on the disabled list, retroactive to Saturday.

The San Diego Padres announced that outfielder Kellen Kulbacki will be assigned to Fort Wayne. Kulbacki was selected by the Padres organization in the supplemental first round, 40th overall, of the 2007 Major League Baseball Draft.

Kulbacki spent the 2007 season with the Eugene Emeralds of the Northwest League, hitting .301 with 13 doubles, three triples, eight home runs and 39 runs batted in over 61 games. He was named the sixth best prospect in the Northwest League by Baseball America.

Kulbacki was the Co-Player of the Year in the Colonial Athletic Association and a first team All-American in 2007, hitting .398 with 15 doubles, 19 home runs and 150 total bases for James Madison. He led conference with a .785 slugging percentage, a .538 on-base percentage and set a school record with 56 walks.

Buschini, who remained in the game after making the catch against the short wall in right field and then falling over, is hitting .333 with one run scored and one walk.

The Wizards will board the bus today to begin a 10-game road trip, starting at 7:00 PM tonight when they visit the Dayton Dragons (Cincinnati Reds affiliate) at Fifth Third Field in the opener of a four-game series.

Fort Wayne returns to Memorial Stadium for a six-game homestand starting at 6:00 PM on Friday, April 18 when they host the Quad City River Bandits (St. Louis Cardinals affiliate) for the first of three games.
