Burlington Bees News Release

Geneva, IL (April 8, 2008) - The Burlington Bees played on the road for the first time on Monday night at Kane County and lost 13-5. The Bees allowed 19 hits on the night as the Cougars led for almost the entire game. Clint Robinson did hit his third homerun in two games and Anthony Bradley extended his scoreless inning streak to five innings.

The game started off in good fashion for the Bees as Adrian Ortiz led off the top of the first with a triple to the gap in right-centerfield. The Bees were unable to score the run from third as Kane County starting pitcher Scott Mitchinson struck out three of the next four hitters while allowing a walk but got out of the inning.

The Cougars took the lead in the bottom of the first inning by scoring six runs. Corey Brown had an RBI single while Greg Dowling hit a two-run homerun and Todd Johnson hit a three-run homerun. The Bees responded in the top of the second inning when Robinson led off the inning with a solo homerun. They would put two more runners on in the second but could not score either of them.

In the third inning, the Bees added another run as Robinson hit an infield single with the bases loaded to score David Lough from third. There was no scoring during the next 2.5 innings but Kane County put up four more runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a ten-run lead.

Burlington scored three runs in the top of the seventh as Jason Taylor hit a two-run double and Jamar Walton also singled in a run but it was not enough. The Cougars added a run in the bottom of the eighth to make the final 13-5.

Ortiz and Robinson were the only Bees with more than one hit as they each had two. The best pitching performance came from Tony Bradley, who threw one inning and did not allow a run on two hits. Starter Zach Peterson threw three innings and allowed eight runs on ten hits as he took the loss in his first appearance of the season.

The two teams play again on Tuesday afternoon. First pitch is set for 12:00 with Danny Gutierrez taking the mound for the Bees. The game can be heard on a tape-delay basis on 1490 KBUR at 6:05. The game can be heard live online at www.GoBees.com.
