First Round Draft Pick To Suit Up For Chiefs
February 14, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL)
Johnstown Chiefs News Release
Johnstown, PA - The Johnstown Chiefs announced today that their AHL affiliate, the Lake Erie Monsters, have assigned goaltender Jason Bacashihua for this Friday's game against the Texas Wildcatters.
A native of Garden City, Michigan, Bacashihua has appeared in 11 games for Lake Erie this season posting a record of 4-5-1 with a .918 save percentage, and a 3.02 goals against average. From 2005 to 2007 Bacashihua appeared in 38 games for the NHL's St. Louis Blues. He was a first-round draft pick (#26 overall) of the Dallas Stars in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.
Bacashihua becomes the third goalie, since 2003, to play for Johnstown after gaining prior NHL experience, joining Arturs Irbe and Gerald Coleman.
The 25-year-old netminder joins the Chiefs for what will be the biggest contest of the season when the red-hot Chiefs welcome the league-leading Texas Wildcatters on Friday night.
Texas, on its northern swing, visits Elmira tonight having knocked off Trenton 3-0 on Tuesday. After having their stretch of 23 games without a regulation loss, the Wildcatters have ripped off another 10 straight victories.
They will have to tangle, though, with a Johnstown team that is playing its best hockey of the season. The Chiefs have gone five games without a regulation loss (4-0-0-1), and have been scoring at a torrid pace. Johnstown is averaging 4.4 goals per game during their current stretch, including a 9-3 win over Elmira, and a 6-3 drubbing of South Division powerhouse Gwinnett.
All of that adds up to what promises to be a thrilling night on Friday at the UPMC Health Plan Ice Rink at the Cambria County War Memorial.
As if that wasn't enough, the world-famous Captain Jack Sparrow from Disney's "Pirates of the Carribean" will be on hand for Friday's game as well!! The Captain will be available for pictures and autographs, and who knows what else he'll be up to. Great seats are still available at the War Memorial for the game.
