Erie SeaWolves News Release
The first place Erie SeaWolves completed a six-game series sweep for the first time in team history, taking down the New Hampshire Fisher Cats with a 5-3 victory on Sunday afternoon. Erie has now won seven straight games and the team finished the two-week road trip with a 10-2 record.
New Hampshire took the lead in the second against Erie starter Wilmer Flores. Flores began his day retiring the first five batters he faced before walking Phil Clarke. Cam Eden then went to the opposite-field with a two-run home run.
Erie responded in the top of the fourth against Fisher Cats starter Paxton Schultz. Quincy Nieporte led off and reached on an error. Dillon Dingler singled and Bryant Packard walked, loading the bases for Gage Workman. Workman sent a tapper back to the mound and on a sliding stop, Schultz threw out Nieporte at the plate for the first out. Schultz struck out Dylan Rosa for the second out before giving up a bases-clearing double to Luis Carpio for a 3-2 SeaWolves lead.
The SeaWolves added to the lead in the top of the fifth. Andrew Navigato led off with a single and scored on a two-out Dillon Dingler triple for a 4-2 lead.
The Cats cut into the lead in the last of the fifth, coming to within a run once again. Will Robertson singled with one out and scored on a Davis Schneider triple.
Erie added one more run in the top of the sixth against Sean Rackoski to go back up by two. Workman led off with an opposite-field double, his second of the game. Rosa doubled home Workman for a 5-3 advantage.
The Erie bullpen was rock solid again on Sunday as a trio of relievers in Elvis Alvarado, J.T. Hintzen and Brendan White kept the Fisher Cats off the scoreboard for the final three innings. The three combined to allow one hit, one walk and one hit batter.
White, working in back-to-back games for the first time since June 22-23, earned his eighth save and second in as many days with a scoreless ninth.
Flores (5-3) earned his first win since June 23. The Erie righty allowed three runs on four this with a walk and three strikeouts in a season-high six innings. The six-inning performance matched his career-high.
Schultz (6-5) took the loss for the Cats allowing four runs, one earned, on seven hits with a walk and a strikeout in 4.2 innings.
