July 7, 2022 - Carolina League (CarL)
Columbia Fireflies News Release
COLUMBIA, SC - The Fireflies and Pelicans game was suspended due to inclement weather in the top of the fifth inning Thursday night at Segra Park. The game will resume tomorrow at 4:30 pm at Segra Park. Gates for the contest will open at 4:15 pm. It will be made up as a doubleheader with the second game going seven innings. The t-shirt giveaway will be given away prior to the second game.
Prior to the tarp coming on the field, the Fireflies trailed the Pelicans 4-0 with two outs in the top of the fifth. Myrtle Beach jumped on the board in the top of the first, when Josue Huma led the inning off with a double and scored on a Kevin Made single.
The Pelicans tallied three additional runs in the top of the fifth as the rain started to come down. Jacob Wetzel hit his fifth homer to lead off the inning and then with Ethan Hearn and Huma on the base paths, Kevin Alcantara lifted a single to right that plated the pair.
RHP Luinder Avila (4-6, 4.98 ERA) gets the nod for Columbia in game two and Myrtle Beach counters with RHP Richard Gallardo (4-5, 3.82 ERA).
Tomorrow is Columbian Rhapsody night at Segra Park! The Fireflies are rocking and rolling all night long and they'll be giving away a t-shirt featuring your best friend Mason to the first 1,000 fans through the gates. Tickets are available at FirefliesTickets.com.
