ABOUT LAST GAME: Columbia snapped its five-game losing streak with a 2-1 win over Charleston on Monday evening. The Fireflies lost the first two games in the set but salvaged the series with a victory. Chris Viall tossed six impressive innings: 5 H, 1 ER, 7 K, 2 BB. The righty picked up his third win of the season. Reliever Darwin Ramos earned his second career save (after hurling three scoreless frames). The Venezuelan has now logged nine straight shut-out innings.
THAT'S QUINN-TASTIC: Outfielder Quinn Brodey has gotten off to a nice start in the month of July. The 22-year-old is hitting .321 (9-for-25) in eight games, by far his best month of the season even despite the small sample size. Brodey has tallied four extra-base hits, including two homers. His July average is the best on the team and only Scott Manea (5) has more XBH to start the month.
ABOUT LAST...MONTH: Columbia last played Hagerstown at Municipal Stadium from June 15-17. The Fireflies won the series finale on Father's Day. Jay Jabs and Rigoberto Terrazas recorded multi-hit games.
[INSERT WILLIE NELSON SONG TITLE]: The Fireflies are back on the road for seven games. Columbia visits Hagerstown, Maryland, from Wednesday-Friday and then faces the Lakewood BlueClaws in New Jersey from Saturday through July 17. Columbia will log more than 1,400 miles traveling from Columbia to the two aforementioned cities and back.
PROMOTED: Jeremy Vasquez is the most-recent Firefly to receive a promotion to the advanced-A St. Lucie Mets. The 21-year-old was involved in several impactful moments with Columbia.
- Went on 29-game on-base streak to begin the season (April 5-May 6)
- One of six Fireflies named a 2018 SAL All-Star
- Became second Firefly to smash two home runs in one game this season (July 7). Quinn Brodey (April 18 @ Greenville) is the only other Firefly in 2018 to homer twice in one game.
BOLD STRATEGY, LET'S SEE IF IT PAYS OFF: The Fireflies lead the league in walks (289) and have struck out (619) the fewest times.
