Firebirds Fly into North Bay off Back-To-Back Wins

NORTH BAY, Ont. - The Firebirds look to sweep their three-game eastern conference road trip on Sunday afternoon in North Bay. So far on the trip they have posted pair of victories that came in Barrie on Thursday, 5-3, and in Sudbury on Friday, 4-3. This afternoon, all sights are on the Battalion. Puck drop is set for 2:00 p.m. at the North Bay Memorial Gardens.

WINNING STREAK: The Birds have won back-to-back games for the first time this season earlier in the week. Edmonton Oilers prospect Nathan Day has been stellar between the pipes, earning first star honors in both contests. He's made a combined 69 saves on 75 shots while picking up his first two wins of the campaign. Toronto Maple Leafs signee Braeden Kressler tallied his first two goals of the season in a 5-3 win over the Colts on Thursday and Sudbury native Zacharie Giroux potted a pair of goals against Wolves Friday in front of his home-town crowd.

SERIES HISTORY: Flint holds a mark of 4-6-1-1 in games versus North Bay, with a record of 1-3-1-1 at the North Bay Memorial Gardens. Last season the home team was victorious in each of the two meetings.

SCOUTING THE BATTALION: (4-3-1-1, 3rd Central Division) -

A trio of forwards pace the Troops with 12 points through nine games. Owen Van Steensel leads in goals with six to date, while Dalyn Wakely has three tallies plus a team-leading nine assists. Anthony Romani has chipped in five goals and seven helpers.

Dom DiVincintis, a prospect of the Winnipeg Jets organization, has appeared in seven of North Bay's nine contests this season, recording four wins with a 2.45 goals-against average and a .910 save percentage. Second-year goaltender Charlie Robertson has a 3.82 GAA and a .869 SV% through two appearances.

The Troops rank 11th on the penalty kill with an 81.1% rate of success. With the man advantage, they sit in 14th (11.8%) but have yet to score a power play goal at home.

SCOUTING THE FIREBIRDS: (3-5-0-0, 4th West Division) -

Kaden Pitre continues to pace the field for Flint in scoring, now with a club-high five goals along with two assists in eight games. Zacharie Giroux also has seven points on three goals and four helpers. Overager Nolan Dann ranks third with five points (3 G, 4 A).

Nathan Dayc has appeared in seven games this season. He's posted two victories along with a 4.85 GAA and an .848 save percentage. Rookie Jacob Brown has a 5.68 GAA and a .800 SV% across two appearances.

The Firebirds are killing penalties at a 73.5% clip, ranking them 18th. They have converted on 5.6% of their power plays.

COMING UP: The Firebirds face division-rival Soo Greyhounds in back-to-back games next week. The first game with the Hounds will be on the road Wednesday before hosting Soo on Saturday at the Dort Financial Center.
