Firebirds Draft 16 Players in 2024 OHL Priority Selection

FLINT, Mich. - The Flint Firebirds welcomed 16 players to the organization via the 2024 OHL Priority Selection over the weekend, headlined by right wing Cole Zurawski at number six overall.

"This draft was about finding Flint Firebirds, players who fit our coaching style and play the game that we want to play," Firebirds Head Scout Mike Oliverio said. "These players will have an easier transition to the OHL and to Flint because they are already playing our style. Our staff did a great job finding players to fill spots where they will push some of our veterans for jobs. We like to create the competition for ice time and an atmosphere where nothing is a given."

Flint opened the draft on Friday night by selecting Zurawski and followed with three more forwards, Xavier Tessier, Ryland Cunningham and Gage Brandon.

On Saturday, the Firebirds made a total of 12 picks, beginning with defenseman Christian Colosimo, taken with the first pick of the fourth round. In total, Flint selected five centers, three left wings, two right wings five defensemen and one goaltender.

"Once again, I can't credit Mike and the entire scouting staff enough for their hard work," Firebirds General Manager Dave McParlan said. "They did an incredible job finding highly skilled players with quality character. The future is bright in Flint and we're very excited to see what these young men can do as Firebirds."

Flint will next participate in the 2024 U18 OHL Priority Selection on Wednesday night. Each player by the Firebirds during both drafts will be invited to the 2024 Orientation Camp, set to take place the upcoming weekend, April 19-20.
