The Fayetteville FireAntz played two games this past weekend, a home-and-home set with the Columbus Cottonmouths. Fayetteville was coming off of a big win last Tuesday, in which they defeated the Huntsville Havoc, 4-3, who entered the game with a 10-1 record and in first place in the SPHL.

Friday, November 21st (@ Columbus): The FireAntz traveled to Columbus to take on the Cottonmouths for the first meeting between the two clubs this season.

In the first period, Columbus got off to a quick start on a power play goal by Tim Green at the 7:00 mark. The FireAntz answered back, however, with a power play goal by Captain Corey Hessler at the 11:25 mark. All-time goal scoring leader for the FireAntz, Rob Sich, gave the FireAntz a 2-1 lead just before the end of the first period.

Two goals a piece were scored in the second period. Newcomers Dan Buccella (shorthanded) and Emery Olauson (power play) netted goals for the FireAntz. Fayetteville led 4-3 going into the third period.

Green would tally his second of the game for the Cottonmouts at 9:49 of the third frame, the only goal of the period, and the game would go into overtime. Just eight seconds into the sudden death overtime period, Fayetteville's Buccella stole the puck behind the Cottonmouths' net from Andrew Dwyer and, in one motion, slid it past an unexpecting Chad Rycroft for the game winner, his second goal of the contest. The FireAntz defeated Columbus, 5-4 in overtime, for their second consecutive win.

The FireAntz outshot Columus 53-34.
