Fayetteville Marksmen News Release

FAYETTEVILLE, NC---The Cape Fear FireAntz of the Atlantic Coast Hockey League (ACHL) saw their losing streak rise to five games, with a 3-0 loss against the Knoxville Ice Bears. In a faced paced game that saw only four penalties, Knoxville goaltender Fred Beaubien recorded his third shutout of the season with a 19 save performance.

The Ice Bears found the back of the net 13:34 into the game on a quick wrist shot from Jim Bermingham. A few minutes later Matt Kohansky and Ryan Kiley had consecutive breakaways for the Antz but were not able to get it past the Knoxville net minder.

The second period was very quiet. Besides a penalty for both teams, it was a goalie show. Cape Fear goalie Geoff Derouin made 13 of his 28 saves in the middle period. The save of the night came at the half way point when Derouin was forced to go post-to-post to rob Bears captain Steve Zoryk for the time being.

Zoryk added two insurance goals for Knoxville at the 6:58 and 11:23 marks of the final period. That was all the Ice Bears needed as the visiting team only allowed the Antz to muster five shots in the third period.

When asked about the losing streak Head Coach Bryan Wells just shook his head and said sometimes you can't find luck. The FireAntz will try to get their luck back as Macon rolls into town Feb. 15. The puck will drop at 7:35 p.m. at the Crown Coliseum.
