The RiverKings got the jump right away as Michal Stastny tipped home his 16th goal of the season just 20 seconds into the game on a shot from Kahlil Thomas. Stastny has now scored a goal in four straight games and recorded a point in six consecutive. The Mudbugs tied it on a power play when Forbes MacPherson kept the puck in at the blue line and worked it down low for Chad Spurr who slid the puck into the net at 4:57. The âKings then went on a power play chance of their own, but it was Bossier-Shreveport taking the momentum and the lead. Trevor Buchanan stole the puck in Memphis zone and unloaded a slap shot for a short handed tally at 11:42 to give the Mudbugs a 2-1 lead.
The Mudbugs extended their lead early in the second period as defenseman Jim Sprott wired home a five-on-three power play goal at 6:52 of the frame to make it 3-1. The âKings got back into the game when Jonathan Gagnon put the puck in the net on a wild goal mouth scramble during a power play at 11:57 for his 16th of the year to cut the deficit to 3-2. Memphis out shot the Mudbugs 15-6 in the period.
In the third period the Mudbugs again drew first blood as MacPherson continued his hot play as he backhanded the puck by J.F. Racine at 10:47 to make it 4-2 Bossier-Shreveport. The Kings once again got back in the game on the power play as Jay Neal blasted the puck home for his 16th of the year at 14:26 to make it a one goal deficit. Bossier-Shreveport wrapped it up when Dan Wildfong finished things with a wrist shot from the slot at 18:46. FINAL SCORE Bossier-Shreveport 5, Memphis 3.
Racine finished with 20 saves on 25 shots to drop to 17-8-2, while Jonathan Forrest turned in a 35 save performance to improve to 6-6-4. The RiverKings were spotted 13 power plays but converted on only two. Bossier-Shreveport went two for seven on the power play.
