
FireAntz ink Hessler

[FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.] - The Fayetteville FireAntz of the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) announced today that defenseman Corey Hessler has signed for the 2007-08 hockey season. Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed. Additionally, Hessler fills the final "veteran" slot, joining B.J. Stephens and Edan Welch.
Hessler, 30, a 6'1'', 205-pound defenseman from Mendota Heights, MN joins the FireAntz for his first season with the club and will assume the role of Player/Assistant Coach under Head Coach Tommy Stewart.
Last season Hessler split time between the Pee Dee Cyclones and the Rockford IceHogs of the former United Hockey League, now the International Hockey League (IHL). While with Rockford, Hessler won a championship, tallying two goals and notching one assist in 17 playoff games.
Hessler, a professional since the 2002-03 season, has spent time at the highest level of minor league hockey, playing eight games with the Portland Pirates in 2003-04 as well as playing 16 games with the Milwaukee Admirals during the 2005-06 campaign.
