[FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.] - The Fayetteville FireAntz of the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) broke many team and league records, Tuesday Night, en route to an 11-1 victory over the Jacksonville Barracudas.

Josh Welter and Rob Whidden each tallied four goals and two assists in the game. Their six points tied a team record set by Peter Cermak November 14, 2003. It was also the first time in team history that two FireAntz players had three goals in the same game, they both had four. The big night vaulted Welter into the lead in the SPHL in goals (9) and tied for second in the league in points (16). Whidden, the only rookie on the club, moved into a tie for second in the SPHL in goals (8).

Rob Meanchoff had a record-setting evening of his own. His plus-9 rating for the game broke a team and league record, passing his own mark of plus-7 on February 18, 2005. He now leads the SPHL in plus/minus with a plus-15 rating. Meanchoff also had four assists in the game, tying a FireAntz record held by three others.

The FireAntz set records as a team as well. The 11 goals scored was one shy of a team and league record. Last season, the FireAntz scored 12 goals twice (March 4th and March 12th). The Columbus Cottonmouths also netted 12 goals in a game last season (March 15th).

One other record fell last night in Jacksonville. The seven goals scored in the first period broke a team record and tied a league record for most goals in a period. The FireAntz have scored six goals in a period three times (twice last year and once this year). Their seven goals ties a league record set by the Barracudas last season on March 10th.

Dean Jackson (6th) and Jeff Coulter (1st and 2nd) also got in on the scoring act for the FireAntz. Glen Ridler earned his second victory in as many starts.

The FireAntz next home games are November 24th and 25th, both at 7:35 at the Crown Coliseum. Make sure to join the FireAntz on their 4th annual Thanksgiving game against I-95 rival Pee Dee Cyclones. Then, on the 25th, the FireAntz play host to the Jacksonville Barracudas. Great seats still remain.

Season tickets and Corporate Partnerships for the 2005-2006 campaign are still available. Contact the FireAntz office (910) 321-0123 for more information.
