Fayetteville Marksmen News Release
[Fayetteville, N.C.] âThe Fayetteville FireAntz of the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) announced yesterday the completion of a trade with the Jacksonville Barracudas. Forwards Shawn Roed and Brent Rumble will go to Jacksonville in exchange for Forwards Kory Baker, George Nistas, Tyler Perry and Defenseman Mark Phenow.
To Jacksonville:
Roed, a 5'9'' 172 pound center from White Bear Lake, Minnesota was the FireAntz leading scorer this season. In 18 games he amassed 21 points on 11 goals and 10 assists. In his final game with the FireAntz, on Saturday, Roed had a hat-trick. He also had 81 penalty minutes.
Rumble, a 6'1'' 200 pound winger from Bleiheim, Ontario was the FireAntz third leading scorer this year. In 21 games he tallied 17 points on 5 goals and 12 assists. Rumble had been hot of late, getting 14 points (3 goals, 11 assists) in his last 10 games with the FireAntz.
To the FireAntz:
Baker, a 6'0'' 175 pound center from Miramichi, New Brunswick was the sixth leading scorer for the Barracudas with 16 points on 4 goals and 12 assists in just 15 games played.
Nistas, a 5'9'' 167 pound center out of North York, Ontario was tied for third on Jacksonville in scoring before coming to the FireAntz. In 18 games played he had 17 points on 8 goals and 9 assists.
Perry, a 6'0'' 202 pound center from 7 Mile House, British Columbia was the leading scorer for Jacksonville. In 20 games played he had 20 points on 6 goals and 14 assists. He was also +10 on the season.
Phenow, a 5'11'' 190 pound defenseman, the only defenseman included in the trade, had 2 goals and 6 assists for 8 points in 12 games played this season. The addition of Phenow will fill the gap vacated by Stephen Margeson who was recalled by the Memphis River Kings of the CHL December 21st.
Of the trade Head Coach Derek Booth said, "This was a move that had to be made. They (Roed and Rumble) were great guys on the ice and in the locker room and will be sorely missed but with Margeson and (Bryan) Lachapelle being called up (Lachapelle was recalled by the San Angelo Saints of the CHL December 24th) we had to make some moves."
Booth added, "In order to get a lot you have to give up a lot. We are getting a lot of quality talent in return and they will help this team tremendously."
The next FireAntz home game is December 31st as they play host to the Asheville Aces at 7:35 pm. Immediately following the game there will be a New Year's Social with the players at the Crown Coliseum. Social tickets must be bought in advance from the FireAntz office at (910) 321-0123. Celebrate the New Year with the FireAntz.
