December 27, 2004 - SPHL (SPHL)
Winston-Salem Polar Twins News Release

The Winston-Salem Polar Twins played two games last week, traveling to Macon on Tuesday and Fayetteville on Christmas Day. Both games saw Winston-Salem with the lead at the end of one period of play but the Twins could not hold on for a win.

Tuesday, December 21 at Macon: The Twins traveled to Macon on Tuesday for the second half of a home-and-home series with the Trax. Winston-Salem came out strong in the first period, getting goals from Geoff Rollins, Chester Gallant, and Trevor Karasiewicz. John Gurskis and Craig Miller scored for Macon in the first, giving the Polar Twins a 3-2 lead after twenty minutes of play. From there it was all Macon as the Trax scored four unanswered goals, including two by Gurskis to complete the hat trick, for a 6-3 final.

Saturday, December 25 at Fayetteville: The Polar Twins faced off against cross-state rival Fayetteville in a Christmas night showdown but even Santa couldn't put a win under the tree for Winston-Salem. The Polar Twins came out roaring in the first period, with goals by Chester Gallant and Shaun Aebig putting the Twins up 2-1 heading into the first intermission. Fayetteville turned it all around in the second, netting five goals on only 14 shots. Trevor Karasiewicz netted one more for the Polar Twins but it would not be enough as Fayetteville coasted to the 7-3 victory.

Answering the call

Shaun Aebig get call from Charlotte

Shaun Aebig made his ECHL debut on Sunday afternoon, donning a Charlotte Checker's uniform for the team's post-holiday matinee against the Augusta Lynx. Aebig, the Polar Twins leading scorer after 23 games, saw consistent ice time for the Checkers, who dropped Sunday's game 5-4 at Cricket Arena in Charlotte.

"This has been a great experience for me," said Aebig following his debut. "It took me a little bit to get used to the speed and level of play but I tried hard to get the puck on net and do the little things. I think that counts for a lot in this league."

Aebig, who has 22 points (9G, 13A) for the Polar Twins in 23 games, is expected to return to the Winston-Salem lineup Thursday when the Polar Twins travel to Knoxville for game one of the three game set against the Ice Bears.
