'Cudas finish off perfect run over Twins

[WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.] – Glenn Crawford scored three goals and Peter Cermak added two more as the Jacksonville Barracudas defeated the Winston-Salem Polar Twins by a 7-1 score. It was the Barracudas' eighth win of the season over Winston-Salem giving the ‘Cudas a perfect 8-0 record against the Twins.

Winston-Salem opened the scoring at the 6:25 mark of the opening period on a power play goal by Steve Lajoie. With Lajoie stationed in front of the net, Trevor Jobe's shot from the point was blocked but Shaun Aebig go the puck in front to give Lajoie his 13th goal of the season.

Jacksonville would take over from there, scoring seven unanswered goals. The ‘Cudas started thing going by tying things up a little less than four minutes later on Peter Cermak's first of two goals on the night. Jason Silverthorn's shot was stopped by Rick Nichol but the rebound came out in front to Cermak who wristed a screened shot into the net for his 14th goal of the season.

The Barracudas took the lead with only 37 seconds remaining in the first period on Cermak's second goal of the game. With Jacksonville on the power play, Cermak skated into the Polar Twins' zone, making quick work of the Winston-Salem defenders and tallying his 15th goal of the season for a 2-1 lead for the Barracudas.

In the second period, it was more Jacksonville with Jason Bone and B.J. Stephens each tallying a goal for a 4-1 lead after two periods of play.

In the third, Glenn Crawford's natural hat trick put the game out of reach for Winston-Salem at 7-1.

Tomorrow night the curtain will fall on the inaugural season for the Polar Twins as the Asheville Aces come to town for a 7:30 p.m. start. Following the game, the Twins will host one more after skate where fans can skate with the players.
