Fightins Swing Their Way o Sixth Straight Win

The Reading Fightin Phils are on a roll as they now have won six straight games as they defeated the New Hampshire Fisher Cats 7-6. The Fightins are now 25-18 on the season and Mike Nesseth earned his first win of the season.

Andy Burns hit a RBI single off Fightin Phils starter Mike Nesseth with two outs in the top of the 1st inning to give the Fisher Cats a 1-0 lead. Reading tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the 1st inning as Cameron Perkins hit a RBI groundout off Fisher Cats starter Scott Copeland to score Albert Cartwright from third base.

New Hampshire broke the tie in the top of the 2nd inning as Jon Berti hit a two-RBI single to take a 3-1 lead. A two-run home run by Mike McDade in the top of the 5th inning off Nesseth extended the Fisher Cats lead to 5-1. Nesseth allowed five runs off seven hits with two walks and four strikeouts in five innings.

The Fightin Phils would send up the whole batting order in the bottom of the 5th inning to take a 6-5 lead over the Fisher Cats and Scott Copeland. Brock Stassi and Cameron Perkins provided back-to-back RBI groundouts to put the Fightins within two runs, 5-3. Addison Maruszak hit a RBI single and Aaron Altherr hit a two-run home run to give Reading the lead 6-5.

Austin Wright allowed a run in the top of the 7th inning as Matt Newman hit a RBI single to cut the Fightins lead to 7-6. Tyler Knigge pitched two scoreless innings for his third save of the season.

Colton Murry threw one pitch in 1/3 of an inning.

The Fightin Phils and New Hampshire Fisher Cats will wrap up their five-game series on Thursday morning at 11:35 am.
