Reading Fightin Phils News Release
The Fightin Phils managed ten hits but only scored three runs as the Harrisburg Senators defeated the Reading Fightin Phils 10-3 on Saturday night. Severino Gonzalez took the loss despite pitching well as he allowed three runs through six innings with five strikeouts.
Two nights in a row the Fightin Phils have scored in the first inning as Tommy Joseph hit a RBI single off Senators starter AJ Cole with the bases loaded to score Carlos Alonso and give Reading a 1-0 lead. Zach Collier scored on a fielder's choice by Brock Stassi to extend the lead to 2-0 over Harrisburg.
Cutter Dykstra homered for the second straight night for the Senators, this time a two-run home run off Severino Gonzalez to tie the game at 2-2 in the top of the third inning. Harrisburg took a 3-2 lead in the top of the sixth inning as Jason Martinson hit a RBI single off Gonzalez.
Dykstra struck again in the top of the seventh inning off Fightin Phils reliever Austin Wright as he hit a two RBI single to take a 5-2 lead. Cameron Perkins cut the lead to two, 5-3 in the bottom of the seventh inning as he hit a RBI single off Senators reliever Richie Mirowski to score Carlos Alonso.
The Senators would not relent as they scored five runs in the top of the ninth inning off Fightin Phils reliever Jay Johnson. Michael Taylor hit a three run home run and Destin Hood hit a two run home run to give the Senators a 10-3 lead. In the bottom of the ninth inning, the Fightin Phils would managed two base runners against Senators reliever Tyler Herron but it wouldn't be enough as he got Tommy Joseph to fly out to centerfield to end the game.
The Fightin Phils are now 9-5 on the season. They are off on Sunday and resume play on Monday evening at FirstEnergy Stadium as they welcome in the Richmond Flying Squirrels for three games. Monday's game begins at 6:35 pm.
