Fighters Cruise Past Duke City
March 27, 2022 - Indoor Football League (IFL)
Frisco Fighters News Release
The Fighters posted 60 points for the first time in franchise history on the way to a conclusive 27-point victory against Duke City Saturday night.
Quarterbacks Blake Sims and TJ Edwards both fired three touchdown passes in Frisco's 60-33 road triumph. Both signal-callers also ran for a score.
The Fighters' defense made quite the impact, as well, by picking off five throws and holding the hosts scoreless in the first half.
Sims, who started the game, helped the Fighters (1-1) hit paydirt on their first four offensive possessions and passed for more yards (101) in the first half than the team did all game in its last outing (97). Edwards took over behind center after halftime - which Frisco entered with a 30-0 edge - and took advantage of a pair of Gladiator miscues in the fourth quarter.
For Duke City (0-2), Ramone Atkins and Caleb Holbrook split time behind center in the absence of usual starter Nate Davis. By the time the latter notched three scoring strikes in the third quarter, Frisco's lead was too much for the Gladiators to overcome.
Jerminic Smith made a case for IFL Offensive Player of the Week with four receiving scores, while Sheldon Augustine caught another two.
The Fighters previous game-high was a 58-point performance against the Gladiators last season.
