November 13, 2005 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Cleveland Barons News Release
CLEVELAND, OH - Six different players scored goals for the Barons who skated past the Rochester Americans for their fifth consecutive home win, a franchise record. Jamie Holden turned aside 25 shots, including a penalty shot late in the third period, to preserve his fifth consecutive win, a franchise record for a Barons goaltender.
Both teams were skating in their third game in as many days, but tired legs were not an issue as both teams managed nine shots on goal and a 1-1 score through the first period of play. Stefan Meyer opened the scoring for Rochester with his third goal of the season coming just 2:18 into the game. The two teams matched scoring chances through the majority of the period until the Barons tied the game at 1-1 with only 47-seconds remaining. Tomas Plihal converted his first of the year after stealing a puck at the Rochester blue line and sliding it between the legs of Amerks? goaltender Jean-Marc Pelletier.
Josh Hennessy gave the Barons their first lead of the night five minutes into the second period with a rebound goal, his third of the year. The early goal remained as the only score of the middle frame as Cleveland out-shot the Americans 12-11 during the period and both teams failed on one power play chance apiece.
An onslaught of offense propelled the Barons to a 6-3 win as four different skaters scored goals for Cleveland in the final frame. Josh Prudden?s second goal in as many nights extended the lead for the Barons to 3-1. Ray DiLauro registered his first AHL goal on the power play only two-minutes later. Shane Joseph then scored to give the Barons a commanding 5-1 lead with his first goal of the year at the 7:11 mark of the third period. Rochester made a game of it with back-to-back goals from Dan Focht and Michael Ryan to trim the Barons lead down to two goals. But with 3:44 remaining all momentum the Amerks gained was stolen away with a penalty shot save from Cleveland goaltender Jamie Holden on Rochester?s Ryan while the Amerks were short-handed. Craig Valette then secured the win with his second goal of the year with less than three minutes to go in regulation.
The win set a franchise record for the Barons with five consecutive victories on home ice. Thursday night at 7 O?clock they?ll look to extend that feat to six when they host the Syracuse Crunch at National City Rink in the Q. Thursday?s game will be the first of three consecutive in-as-many-nights. Friday the Barons travel to Grand Rapids and then return to home ice for Saturday?s match up with the Griffins at 7 O?clock in the back end of a home-and-home series. Tickets for all regular season games are on sale now and group discounted tickets are available by calling the Barons at 216-420-0000.
