Manchester Monarchs News Release
MANCHESTER, NH - The Manchester Monarchs, the top affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings, and the Monarchs Care Foundation, the organization's charitable arm, on Monday will host the Fifth Annual Ace Bailey Golf Classic at the Manchester Country Club in Bedford, New Hampshire. Proceeds from this year's sold out event will benefit the Level II Special Care Nursery at The Mom's Place, located at Catholic Medical Center (CMC) in Manchester. The nursery provides an environment for parents to learn how to care for at risk babies who are in need of additional medical attention before leaving the hospital. Last year's event raised over $33,000 for the nursery.
The Monarchs Care Foundation annually partners with the Ace Bailey Children's Foundation and CMC to celebrate the life of Garnet "Ace" Bailey and to raise funds for a worthy cause in his name. Bailey, known for his love of kids and his fun-loving attitude, served as the Kings Director of Pro Scouting until his death on September 11, 2001. Bailey was a passenger aboard United Flight 175 and was lost in the tragic events of that day.
The Ace Bailey Golf Classic also annually brings together an outstanding collection of men and women who have distinguished themselves in the sport of hockey. This year's list of celebrities include Kings former President of Hockey Operations/General Manager Dave Taylor, Kings former Vice President of Hockey Operations/Assistant General Manager and Monarchs former General Manager Kevin Gilmore, Monarchs President Jeff Eisenberg, Kings former Director of Player Personnel Bill O'Flaherty, Monarchs Director of Hockey Operations Hubie McDonough, Monarchs Head Coach Jim Hughes and Monarchs Assistant Coach Derek Clancey. Current and former Monarchs players like Derek Bekar (2001-03), Sam Ftorek (2003-04), Jeff Giuliano (2002-present), Eric Healey (2001-03), Doug Nolan (2002-present) and Richard Seeley (2001-04, 2005-06) will also participate in this year's tournament, along with Colleen Coyne, Katie King, Tara Mounsey and Jamie Hagerman. Coyne, King and Mounsey all were Gold Medalists on the 1998 USA Women's Hockey Team and Hagerman was a Bronze Medalist along with King on the 2006 USA Women's Hockey Team. Rounding out the field of celebrities will be former hockey greats like Gordie Clark, Steve Kasper and Scott Pellerin, University of New Hampshire Associate Head Coach Scott Borek, Albany River Rats Head Coach Robbie Ftorek, Dartmouth College Head Coach Bob Gaudet, Sports Broadcaster Ellen Hughes, former Monarchs Assistant Coach Bobby Jay and current players Bobby Allen, Mark Mowers, Eric Nickulas and Rob Scuderi.
Registration for this year's event begins at 11:00 a.m. on Monday morning with a shotgun start scheduled for 12:00 p.m. An awards dinner featuring a live and silent auction is slated for 5:00 p.m. A Los Angeles Kings Royal Treatment Package (two tickets to a 2006-07 Los Angeles Kings game at Staples Center including hotel, airfare and premier seating; a locker room tour and lunch with Kings players), a Boston Red Sox signed baseball bat from the 2004 World Series team and a Wayne Gretzky signed hockey stick highlight the auction items.
