
Wolf Pack Sign Forward Zdenek Bahensky

Hartford, June 14, 2006: Hartford Wolf Pack general manager/head coach Jim Schoenfeld announced today that the Wolf Pack have signed forward Zdenek Bahensky to an American Hockey League contract. In accordance with team policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.
Bahensky, 20, played this past season with the Western Hockey League's Saskatoon Blades. In 65 games with the Blades, the 6-2, 205-pounder, notched 19 goals and added 36 assists for 55 points, along with 76 penalty minutes. The native of Most, Czech Republic placed third on the team in assists, fourth in points and third in penalty minutes. Bahensky registered 13 multi-point games during 2005-06, including 10 two-point efforts, two three-point games, and one four point outing. He also appeared in 10 playoff contests for the Blades, recording two goals and five assists for seven points (the fourth-best total on the club), along with 16 penalty minutes. The highlight of Bahensky's postseason was a one-goal, two-assist performance in a triple overtime loss to Medicine Hat on Apr. 8. Bahensky, a third-round pick (73rd overall) by the New York Rangers in 2004, also skated for his native Czech Republic at the 2006 World Junior Championships, registering one assist and 10 penalty minutes in six games.
In 2004-05, his first season in North America, Bahensky registered 14 goals and 17 assists for 31 points, along with 101 penalty minutes, in 66 games for Saskatoon, ranking ninth in WHL rookie scoring. He was the first overall pick in the 2004 CHL (Canadian Hockey League) Import Draft, after skating for Litvinov in the Czech Republic Junior League during the 2003-04 campaign. Bahensky also helped represent the Czech Republic at the 2004 IIHF Under-18 World Junior Championship in Minsk, Russia (1-3-4, 2 PIM in 7 GP).
