Fields named ECHL Goalie of the Week

The ECHL announced today that Gladiators goaltender Sean Fields has been named the ECHL goaltender of the week for April 17th through April 23rd as he helped the Gladiators clinch their Division Semi-Final Series against the South Carolina Stingrays.

Fields posted 26 saves in a 3-1 win over South Carolina on April 19th to help Gwinnett complete a 3-games-to-none sweep of the South Carolina Stingrays and advance to the Division Championship series against the Florida Everblades.

The Edmonton, Alberta native set a Gladiators franchise record for wins in a season posting a 32-9-4 record in 45 games this year. Fields also had a career best 3 shutouts during the season for the Gladiators.

It is the second time this season that Fields has won the honor as he was named the ECHL Goalie of the Week for December 26th through December 31st as he went 3-0-0 during that week.

Fields was named an ECHL Saver of the Week for the week of March 7th through the 14th during his rookie season last year. He finished last season with a 21-7-2 record with a shutout, a goals against average of 2.48 and a save percentage of .913 in 31 games for the Gladiators.

In four seasons at Boston University, Fields was named the team's Most Valuable Player in 2002-03 and 2003-04 and set numerous records including wins (62), saves (3066) and minutes (7308). Fields is the only player in history to win the Eberly Trophy for outstanding goaltender and the MVP award in back-to-back Beanpot Tournaments (2003 and 2004).
