BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The ECHL in association with The Hockey Company announced that Bakersfield Condors forward Eric Neilson finished second in the voting for the CCM Man of the Year award.

During the course of the 2005-06 season, Neilson has taught a class through Junior Achievement, a hockey clinic at the Boys & Girls Club, read countless books to children, graded science fair projects and learned sign language in order to "talk" with a special class. The Fredericton, New Brunswick native finished his rookie season with two goals and two assists in 47 appearances with the Condors. Neilson was loaned to Bakersfield by the Manchester Monarchs, the American Hockey League affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings, prior to the start of the season.

"Eric is certainly deserving of this honor," said Condors Head Coach Marty Raymond. "He has been nothing but helpful and generous with his time in the community. Eric is a fine human being and we're proud to have him as a Condor."

The award was given to defenseman Josh Zavitz of the Toledo Storm on Wednesday. The CCM Man of the Year is presented annually to an ECHL player for his outstanding community service as well as sportsmanship both on and off the ice.

Neilson finished in second and Alex Johnstone of Dayton was third while Cam Brown of Gwinnett and Bo Cheesman of Wheeling tied for fourth. The winners were determined by a combination of online voting and recommendations from team general managers and coaches.
