Atlanta Gladiators News Release
Derek Nesbitt and Brad Schell each scored twice leading the Gladiators to a 5-0 win over the Greenville Grrowl on Tuesday night at the Arena at Gwinnett Center. Sean Fields finished with 31 saves for his second shutout of the season.
Derek Nesbitt opened the scoring 8:01 into the first period with his 16th goal of the season. Intercepting a Grrowl clearing attempt at the left wing point, Nesbitt fired the puck on net and caught Greenville netminder Jeff Deslauriers out of position. The netminder got a piece of the shot but Nesbitt had enough on it to roll into the net for the unassisted goal.
Brad Schell gave the Gladiators a 2-0 lead with his first of two goals in the opening period. Schell found a loose puck in the slot behind Deslauriers and jammed it into the net. Jeff Campbell and Troy Milam picked up the helpers on the goal 8:37 into the first.
Milam and Campbell hooked up to set up the Gladiators third goal of the opening period coming with 6:01 left in the first stanza. Schell picked up the goal as he slid down the off wing, took a pass from Milam behind the Greenville defense and ripped a shot past Deslauriers.
In the second, Nesbitt added his second goal of the contest and his 17th of the year. Campbell and Milam each added their third assists of the game on the goal 13:49 into the second. The Gladiators third power play goal of the game, Nesbitt beat Deslauriers from the off wing for the goal.
Milan Gajic added his 12th goal of the season for good measures with 48 seconds left in the contest. Clearing the puck through the crease after swinging through the zone and behind the net, Gajic then bounced the puck off Deslauriers pad and into the net. Scott Kelman picked up an assist on the goal.
Sean Fields made 31 saves to record his second shutout of the season helping the Gladiators improve to 27-9-5 on the year.
