Reading Royals News Release
Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings of the National Hockey League and the Manchester Monarchs of the American Hockey League, today announced that the team has acquired defenseman Nick Vukovic ["VOO koh vick"] in a trade with the Pensacola Ice Pilots for defenseman Stuart Kerr. In separate transactions, the Royals also announced that forward Mike Kompon has been returned from the Hershey Bears of the AHL; that forward John Morlang has been returned from the Lowell Lock Monsters of the AHL; and that T.J. Kemp has been loaned to the Iowa Stars of the AHL. Yesterday, the Royals also released forward Brent Ozarowski.
A first year pro from Kitchener, Ontario, Vukovic started the season with the Florida Everblades, appearing in 32 games during which he scored five goals and picked up seven assists and 47 penalty minutes. Vukovic, who played Canadian university hockey at Wilfrid Laurier University from 2001 through 2005, also played two games this season with the Lowell Lock Monsters of the AHL prior to being traded by Florida to Pensacola. In this his second call up to the AHL, Kompon, who is the Royals' leading scorer (11g - 36a = 47pts), played in three games with Hershey, scoring the game's first goal in a 7-4 win over the Norfolk Admirals last Friday night. Morlang played two games with Lowell in what was his fourth call to the American League this season-his second to the Lock Monsters-and scored a goal in Lowell's 4-2 win over the Toronto Marlies last Saturday. For Kemp, this marks his second call to the AHL this season. He played three games with the Peoria Rivermen two weeks ago prior to being returned to Reading, where he played for the Royals 4-2 win over Dayton last Saturday. Ozarowski played two games with Reading and picked up an assist in the Royals' 7-2 win over Johnstown on Saturday, January 21.
It is expected that Vukovic, Kompon, and Morlang will be in the Royals' lineup when the team takes to the ice Wednesday night in Toledo, Ohio, against the Storm (7:00 pm). Reading concludes a three game road trip in Wheeling, West Virginia, on Friday night (7:00 pm) before returning home on Saturday, February 4 (7:00 pm), when they will face the Nailers in the back end of the home-and-home. On that night, the first 2500 fans in attendance will receive a Royals' poster courtesy of the Reading Eagle. Royals' game day broadcasts can be heard on ESPN Radio 1240 am in Ephrata and www.royalshockey.com with pre-game beginning 30 minutes before the opening face-off. Streaming video is also available through the Royals' website on a pay per view basis provided by B2 Networks.
