Indiana Fever News Release
With three players registering multiple blocked shots, the Fever tied a franchise record with a total of 10 rejections tonight. Ebony Hoffman had a career-high three blocks, while Tan White tied her career-high with blocked shots.
The Silver Stars were 0-7 from behind the 3-pt arc tonight and that is the second most attempts without a made 3-pt FG by an opponent in Fever history. That is the most misses without a made 3-pt FG by an opponent since the Cleveland Rockers were 0-9 from 3-pt range at the Fieldhouse, 8/23/03.
Tonight's win is the Silver Stars' second win against the Fever since the franchise relocated to Texas in 2003. Both of San Antonio's wins vs. Indiana in the last five season have come on the Fever's home floor. While still playing as the Utah Starzz, the Silver Stars' franchise won each of its first five games vs. the Fever.
The Fever's loss extends its losing streak to three in a row, its longest losing streak since losing the last four in a row of the 2004 campaign. Indiana's 89 games without losing three in a row had been the WNBA's longest active streak.
With 15 points, Anna DeForge led the Fever in scoring for the first time since scoring 20 points in Indiana's 87-68 win at Connecticut, 8/11/06.
With a team-high tying six rebounds and a season-high six assists, Sheri Sam becomes just the third Fever player (along with Catchings and Bevilaqua) to lead Indiana in rebounds and assists in the same game.
San Antonio's 41 rebounds are the most by any Fever opponent this season and are just one short of the Conseco Fieldhouse record for an Indiana foe.
Behind an advantage of 15-7 on the offensive boards, the Silver Stars outscored the Fever, 18-4, in second chance points.
The Fever have now played two consecutive games without All-Star forward Tamika Catchings for the first time since she began her WNBA career in 2002. Prior to this season, Catchings had missed a total of two games, both in 2006.
Ruth Riley and Camille Little tied for the Silver Stars' team lead in rebounds with nine apiece and that was both players' most rebounds this season.
Including 4-4 from the foul line, Ebony Hoffman led the Indiana bench with eight points and that tied her most since scoring nine points vs. Washington, 6/3.
In the last eight games, Hoffman has shot 13-19 from the floor (.684), including 2-4 FG tonight.
Tonight's loss is the Fever' second this season (10-2) when having fewer turnovers than the opposition. Indiana had 16 miscues to San Antonio's 17. But, the Silver Stars scored 20 points off Indiana's turnovers while scoring just 12 points off San Antonio's errors. The Fever scored half its points off turnovers in the first half as San Antonio had eight miscues in the first period alone.
