Indiana Fever News Release

INDIANAPOLIS - The Indiana Fever has announced its 2009 Women's National Basketball Association schedule. Indiana will play 34 regular-season games including its first home game on Sunday, June 7 against the Minnesota Lynx.

Beginning later than in recent years to accommodate players' schedules in winter leagues overseas, the WNBA regular season will start on June 6. The Fever will open the 2009 schedule that evening at Atlanta, and return the following night for its home opener at Conseco Fieldhouse.

A playoff team in each of the past four seasons and playing under the direction of second-year coach Lin Dunn, the Fever's schedule includes 22 games against the Eastern Conference and 12 against the West. The Fever will play four games apiece against Eastern foes Chicago, Connecticut, Detroit and Washington; and square off against New York and Atlanta three times. Home and away games are scheduled against each of six Western Conference opponents.

With its later start this summer, the Fever schedule will conclude on exactly the same day, Sept. 13, as it did last season - though it will not include the WNBA's month-long break for the Olympics.

Fever schedule highlights for the upcoming season include:

-Indiana's home opener is Sunday, June 7 against the Minnesota Lynx, led by All-Star scoring sensation Seimone Augustus. The Fever opens the season one night earlier in Atlanta.

-Three times during June and July, the Fever will play consecutive games against Eastern Conference opponents. Indiana is at defending WNBA champion Detroit on June 19, with both teams playing at Conseco Fieldhouse again June 21. Likewise, Indiana is at New York on June 26, before returning to Indianapolis to battle the Liberty one night later. On July 10, the Fever is at Chicago, only to play the Sky at home in its next game, July 15, in the team's annual Kids Day.

-After playing 9 of 10 July games against Eastern Conference opponents, the Fever will battle the West in 7 of 10 games during August. Eight of Indiana's 12 games against the Western Conference fall between August 2 and September 2.

-The Fever concludes its schedule with six games in September. Indiana's final regular-season home game will be September 6 against the Washington Mystics. For the first time in franchise history, the Fever will close the regular season with three straight road dates - at New York (Sept. 8), Chicago (Sept. 10) and Connecticut (Sept. 13).
