2009 Washinton Mystics Schedule Released

Washington, D.C. -The Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) released the league's 2009 schedule today. The Washington Mystics will kick off the team's 12th season on the road on Saturday June 6th against the Connecticut Sun at 4:00 p.m. Washington will host the club's home opener on Sunday, June 7th at 7:00 p.m. against the Atlanta Dream. The Mystics' annual camp day game for local children's camps and groups will be held on Wednesday, July 25th at 11:30 a.m. against 2008 WNBA Championship finalist, the San Antonio Silver Stars. The Mystics will play the majority of its games on the weekends with two Fridays, four Saturdays and five Sundays. The rest of the contests are distributed across two Tuesdays, one Wednesday and three Thursdays. Washington will host the Chicago Sky on Thursday, July 23rd at 7:00 p.m. in a game that will be broadcast on ESPN2.

"We are excited to offer 17 regular season home games of world class professional women's basketball," Mystics Chief Operating Officer Greg Bibb stated. "We plan on making the 12th season of Mystics basketball our biggest and best ever and we are pleased to continue to offer the athleticism and entertainment of the WNBA at affordable prices. With a new general manager, a new head coach and coaching staff, five picks in the upcoming draft and an impressive roster of scheduled entertainment, 2009 promises to be a season to remember."

The Mystics will have the second overall pick in the WNBA draft to be held in April. In addition, the Mystics will have the ninth pick in the first round, the 15th and 24th pick in the second round and the 28th pick in the third round. Washington recently added Rutgers University standout Matee Ajavon with the second pick from the dispersal draft of the Houston Comets.

In 2008, Washington experienced tremendous business growth and saw a 17% increase in attendance and welcomed 16 new corporate partners. Season tickets and partial plans for the 2009 Mystics season are currently on sale and can be purchased by calling the Mystics Sales Office at 1-877-DC-HOOP1.
