San Antonio Stars News Release
SAN ANTONIO - The San Antonio Silver Stars will tip off the 2009 season June 6 at Phoenix before opening the home slate June 13 against New York.
San Antonio plays before a national television audience twice during the regular season with a June 23 home match against Phoenix and an Aug. 29 home game vs. Detroit, both on ESPN2.
San Antonio will play 34 regular-season games (17 home, 17 away), matching up against each Western Conference opponent four times and each Eastern Conference team twice. Fans will have to wait until August to see a rematch of last year's WNBA Finals with the Silver Stars at Detroit on Aug. 23 and home vs. the Shock on Aug. 29.
San Antonio's home schedule features 10 weekend games, including five Saturday tip-offs, four Friday night games and one Sunday evening contest. The Silver Stars host Los Angeles on Aug. 21 and Sept. 5 in two key Western Conference showdowns, then finish the regular season at Sacramento Sept. 10 and home against Seattle Sept. 12.
The Silver Stars finished the 2008 season with a franchise record 24-10 mark, advancing all the way to the WNBA Finals after defeating Los Angeles in a tough Western Conference Finals series. Sophia Young and Becky Hammon picked up All-WNBA honors following the season with Vickie Johnson taking home the Kim Perrot Sportsmanship Award.
The Silver Stars are currently preparing for the 2009 WNBA Draft, slated for April. Silver Stars season ticket packages start as low as $54 with full-season ticket plans beginning as low as $162.
