San Antonio Stars News Release
SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell:
(On the Matchup...)
"We have a lot of players who can play those positions. And on their day, all of them do a very good job. Tonight was no different. A couple of the guys stepped up, which is what we expect. It's till very competitive in that area of the field which is good for the coaching staff. We'll have to make some tough decisions over the next couple of weeks. The goals tonight were well-taken team goals which is something we pride ourselves on."
(On the newer players and changes to the game...)
"The bottom line is everybody in that locker room that's been there this year has worked extremely hard to put this team in the position that we're in, and we take a lot of pride in that."
(On the level of play heading into playoffs...)
"We just have to make sure we're confident in ourselves and our abilities and make sure the players are prepared physically during the course of the week for that moment. When our guys are in that way and in that type of form, we can be very confident in the performance we can deliver. The results will take care of themselves."
(On the fans at Toyota Field...)
"We're just extremely excited to have [the first playoff game] at Toyota Field because our fans have been fantastic all year. They get behind the team - you heard it tonight - and that gives maybe the little extra percentage points for our guys to deliver that performance."
San Antonio FC midfielder Billy Forbes:
(On his and Ever Guzman's performances...)
"This win is a big win, it's important. It gives us momentum headed into playoffs. I think Ever works hard. He runs everywhere. So with that being said, a player like me is going to try to pick him up every time I get the chance. I think with the space and the way he works up top, it really worked great."
(On the team's cohesion tonight...)
"Tonight we stepped the pace up a little bit, headed into the playoffs. I think we did a great job and are more confident going into the playoffs."
San Antonio FC defender Greg Cochrane:
(On the back line...)
"Obviously, we have a pretty good chemistry with each other. It's important because even one goal can be the difference between moving on and going home. We know we're going to have our work cut out for us against whoever we play."
(On playing at Toyota Field...)
"The fans here are tremendous, it's really like a twelfth man sometimes, so we really enjoy playing here. This is where we're comfortable. If we can use that to our advantage, then we'll try to ride that as long as we can."
(On the RGV FC competition...)
"It's funny how we played them in the last game both times. It feels a lot better this year than it did last year. They're a good team - they battle, they push us. It was a good last game going into the playoffs."
(On the team's season-long performance...)
"I feel like we're confident. I think throughout the year we never really lost that confidence. During the season, there are ebbs and flows. Sometimes we're going to get some ties, sometimes we're going to lose, but we never lost our confidence and that's the big thing."
