Staten Island FerryHawks News Release
Before an announced crown of 1,926, the Staten Island FerryHawks fell to the Charleston Dirty Birds, 4-2, Saturday night at Staten Island University Hospital Community Park.
It was quite the day at the ballpark as one of the largest crowds showed up for Star Wars and Autism Awareness Night.
In April, Staten Island University Hospital Community Park was the site of a huge effort to set a Guinness World Record by creating the largest human puzzle piece on the field.
Saturday night, the FerryHawk players wore puzzle piece jerseys to help to celebrate that achievement and raise awareness around autism. The jerseys will be put up for auction to benefit the World Record Breaking effort.
As for the game, pitching dominated this contest early. Charleston got on the board first when they plated two in the fourth and one in the fifth to make it 3-0.
Down, but not out, the FerryHawks fought back as Angel Aguilar muscled a homer over the left field wall in the bottom of the sixth - his 10th dinger of the season and third in the last two days.
In the eighth, Aguilar drove in another run when Brandon Pugh darted home on a line drive to center.
Charleston, leading 3-2 and feeling the pressure from the FerryHawks, managed to plate an insurance run in the ninth.
The FerryHawks gave it once last effort in the ninth but fell short in a game that completed in The final game 2 hours, 19 minutes and was followed by a colorful Saturday night fireworks.
