Grand Junction Jackalopes News Release

During the Grand Junction Rockies 5-game series in Helena, Collin Ferguson was hitless in nine at bats, but as the team played the opening game of a 4-game series against the Billings Mustangs, he had 4 hits in 5 at bats in the Rockies 6-2 win at Dehler Park.

The win gets the Rockies to 16-14 on the season, and with Orem's loss in Helena they get back within two games of the Owlz for first place in the division with eight games left in the half.

On the second pitch of the game, the Rockies took the lead with some help from the Mustangs defense. Daniel Suero hit a pop up down the right field line that was dropped by Mustangs second baseman Shane Mardirosian, and when Suero tried to advance to third, Mardirosian threw the ball away, allowing Suero to score.

Billings tied the game on Brantley Bell's RBI double in the third, but Ferguson started the fourth inning with his fifth home run to put the Rockies back in front.

They added to the lead in the sixth. After Sam Hilliard tripled, Chris Rabago singled to make it 3-1. Ferguson singled after that, which prompted Chris Keck to try a sacrifice bunt, but Tyler Stephenson's throw hit off the glove of Mardirosian allowing Rabago and Ferguson to score and Keck to advance to third base, and he was brought in by a Jonathan Piron single to make it 6-1.

Parker French held the Mustangs to six hits and a run in 4.2 innings, but didn't factor in the decision. James McMahon earned the win after allowing a run in the sixth inning, it's the first win of his career. Juan Pena retired all six men he faced, and Sam Thoele worked around a 2-out single in the ninth.

Along with Ferguson's four hits, the Rockies got a two hit night from Hilliard, both were triples, and Keck.
