Feature Player of the Week: Bernard Payton II

April 8, 2010 - Indoor Football League (IFL)
Bloomington Extreme News Release

Bloomington, (Ill.) - Lining up in the back field for the Extreme this season is 24-year-old running back Bernard Payton II. This is Payton's first year with the Extreme, previously a member of the Abilene Ruff Riders. Through three games he leads the team in rushing with 16 carries for 73 yards and three touchdowns.

Born in Pomona, California, Payton played football at many different high schools, most notably at Valley View High. From there he went on to play ball for two years at Malone University, a Christian school and member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletes.

At the time when Payton's agent was working out a deal with the Extreme, he enjoyed the fact that Extreme head coach, Kenton Carr, was a man with few surprises. "He seems like a pretty fair guy, someone that will give it to you straight and you know what to expect," said Payton.

Even though he has joined a team full of diversity, Payton has found his niche on the Extreme. On joining the team Payton said, "You got a lot of guys that know each other creating cliques, but we all just gel together. You got people from the east coast, west coast, rookies, and veterans. We are a diverse team with different talents. I'm just here sucking it all in, ready to make my move and enjoy myself."

Bernard and the Extreme will take to the field at 7:00 p.m. this Saturday at U.S. Cellular Coliseum against division rival, Chicago Slaughter (1-3).
