Chicago Slaughter Head To Bloomington For Divisional Rival Re-Match

April 8, 2010 - Indoor Football League (IFL)
Chicago Slaughter News Release

CHICAGO -The Chicago Slaughter (1-3), the premier indoor football team in the Chicagoland area, will hit the road this weekend to battle against the Bloomington Extreme (2-2). Saturday night's match-up will be the second meeting for these Central North Division rivalsand the Slaughter is eager to redeem themselves from their earlier season 27-26 loss at home to the Extreme as a result of a missed extra point to tie the game at Sears Centre Arena. In an effort to bolster their defensive play, the Slaughter has picked up Defensive Lineman Ron Ellington who was a three-time All-American and South Atlantic Conference (SAC) Defensive Player of the Year out of Catawba College.

Originally from Charlotte, North Carolina, the 6'4" and 240lb Ellington played for the El Paso Generals (IFL) last year and was named 1st Team All IFL after leading the Lone Star Division in sacks and earning a nomination for IFL 2009 MVP. Ellington is anticipated to be a key play-maker and will have an immediate impact on the defensive side of the ball.

The Slaughter (1-3) won their first game of the season, as they defeated the Alaska Wild (2-3) 34-33 at the Sears Centre Arena on March 21st. QB Randy Hutchison led the Slaughter, finishing the half 15-31 for 126 yards and two touchdowns, while newly signed WR Shatone Powers had five catches for 62 yards. The Slaughter victory ended the team's three game losing streak in which they lost by a cumulative total of eight points.

"We've worked hard to solidify issues on the offensive line and QB Randy Hutchison is finding his groove and developing a stronger leadership role and chemistry with the guys," said Slaughter GM Alan Perkins. "The addition of Ellington will have an immediate impact to our defensive play and we're excited to get him on the field this weekend. We are not afraid to shake things up until we get it right. There is no such thing as a moral victory in this game."

The Slaughter play on the road against the Bloomington Extreme at 7:05 p.m. this Saturday, April 10th. The next Slaughter home game will be Saturday, April 24th, at the Sears Centre Arena against the Kent Predators. Kickoff will be at 7:05 p.m. To purchase tickets, Chicago Slaughter fans can call the team office at (847) 310-3190 or visit the website at www.ChicagoSlaughter.com .
