He may be just a sophomore at Georgetown University, but that hasn't stopped former Earthquakes Academy goalkeeper JT Marcinkowski from gaining national recognition between the pipes. In Will Parchman's recent article "Top 10 future U.S. national team starting goalkeeper prospects," Marcinkowski ranks as the 4th best U.S. National Team starting goalkeeper prospect 25 years old and under.
The only players ranked ahead of Marcinkowski are Columbus Crew SC's Zack Steffen, D.C. United's Bill Hamid, and Molde's Ethan Horvath. The Hoyas' netminder also edged out New England Revolution's Cody Cropper and Sporting Kansas City's Jon Kempin on the list.
In the article, Parchman mentions that Marcincowski's "talent ceiling is up there with the comparably aged Steffen and Horvath," a promising anecdote that Quakes and U.S. Soccer fans can be excited about.
Marcinkowski, 19, has started all 10 of his appearances for the Hoyas in 2016, recently boasting a eight-save, 1-0 shutout win against Providence on Sept. 17. During his freshman season in 2015, Marcinkowski earned BIG EAST Freshman of the Year honors, First Team All-BIG EAST honors and was selected to the BIG EAST All-Freshman Team after starting in all 21 games for Georgetown.
While playing for Quakes PDL affiliate Burlingame Dragons FC in July, Marcinkowski was called into the United States U-20 men's National Team training camp by head coach Tab Ramos. Before his July call-up, the Alamo native helped the U-20s claim first place in the 2016 U-20 Men's NTC Invitational in June.
