FC Tulsa News Release
TULSA - FC Tulsa's impact goes beyond the pitch. Tulsa's pro soccer franchise has partnered with Tulsa Public Schools to make an impact in 31 schools around the city with an autographed soccer ball, called an Impact Ball, throughout the 2021-2022 school year. The goal of the Impact Ball is to help schools motivate their students toward a specific school-wide achievement.
"From our Mural Kit to our work with teachers through the TCTA, we understand the impact we can have on the next generation," said FC Tulsa president James Cannon. "We hope this Impact Ball initiative can encourage students to strive for improvement and be a goal-setting tool for our Tulsa schools."
Early indications from Tulsa Public Schools are that most schools will use the Impact Ball to help motivate students to meet attendance or reading goals or to align with the school's core values. Last year, FC Tulsa tested the initiative with McKinley Elementary School in North Tulsa, which saw attendance numbers rise after introducing the initiative.
"We know attendance is the number one predictor of whether students will stay on track to graduate high school with their peers," said McKinley Elementary Interim Principal Randy Darr. "While piloting this program at McKinley last year we saw our daily attendance grow two percentage points. We cannot wait to participate again this school year and continue laying the foundation to set our students up for success in college, careers, and life!"
FC Tulsa is continuing to pitch the Impact Ball initiative to principals from other school districts around the city of Tulsa including Bixby, Jenks, Broken Arrow and Union Public Schools as well as Holland Hall Primary School.
On the pitch, FC Tulsa will play at ONEOK Field on Saturday night against Atlanta United 2 at 7 p.m. CT.
