FC Dallas Trades Goalkeeper Scott Garlick and Midfielder Carey Talley to Real Salt Lake

DALLAS, Texas - FC Dallas General Manager Michael Hitchcock announced today that the club has officially completed its trade of goalkeeper Scott Garlick and midfielder Carey Talley to Real Salt Lake for a portion of an allocation. The two veterans have played a combined 17 MLS seasons, spending the last two in Dallas. Per league and team policy, exact terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Garlick was acquired by Head Coach Colin Clarke from Colorado prior to the start of the 2004 season in exchange for a second round pick in the 2005 SuperDraft. Over the past two seasons, he appeared in 40 regular season games and starting both of the Hoops postseason matches against Colorado this season. Named to the MLS All-Star Team for the second time in his nine-year MLS career in 2005, Garlick compiled a 13-8-7 record with a 1.36 goals against average and six clean sheets. Garlick's 13 wins tied him for fourth in the league while his save percentage of 72.6% placed him in a tie for third place. The 33-year old shot-stopper played his college soccer at San Diego before signing with D.C. United in 1997. He won nine of his 14 regular season matches that year and then all four of his postseason games to lead United to the MLS Cup. He has been one of Major League Soccer's steadiest goalkeepers since then, appearing in more than 200 games. He ranks second in league history in saves (913), third in wins (97) and tied for fourth in shutouts (44) while spending time with D.C. United, Tampa Bay, Colorado and FC Dallas.

Talley also joined Dallas prior to the start of the 2004 campaign, appearing in 43 games, starting 33 of those and collecting a total of four assists. In the Hoops run to the U.S. Open Cup Final this past season, Talley also added a pair of goals, good for tops on the team, including the game-winner in extra time against the Wilmington Hammerheads on July 13. For his career, the Cordova, Tenn. native has appeared in 196 games with 12 goals and 14 assists. Prior to coming to Dallas, Talley spent two years with the Kansas City Wizards and the first four years of his MLS career with D.C. United, with whom he won the MLS Cup in 1999.

FC Dallas, a charter member club of Major League Soccer, began play at Pizza Hut Park, a new 20,000 seat soccer stadium, on August 6, 2005. The 145-acre facility is located at the intersection of Main Street and Dallas North Tollway in Frisco. Pizza Hut Park will accommodate Major League Soccer matches, major concerts, international soccer matches and High School football.
