FC Dallas News Release
FRISCO, TX (Friday, Aug. 13, 2010) - FC Dallas has signed Brazilian right back Jackson Goncalves on loan from Brazilian powerhouse, São Paulo FC, FC Dallas Technical Director Barry Gorman announced today.
Born in Franca, Brazil, the 22-year old first joined the São Paulo youth system in 2003. Known simply as Jackson, he made his professional debut for São Paulo against Fluminense in a 1-1 draw at Estádio do Maracanã in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on Oct. 13, 2007.
"Having played for São Paulo's first team, Jackson brings youthful experience to FC Dallas," Gorman said. "Adding a player to our roster who has had senior-level experience in a Brazilian first division is an enormous opportunity for us. He is a wonderful individual, a good human being and he fits the mold of the type of player we want wearing the FC Dallas colors."
Since signing with São Paulo, Jackson has been on loan with several Brazilian clubs including: Uberaba Sport Club (2008), Mogi Mirim (2009), São Caetano (2009) and Botafogo-SP (2010). Jackson was also on trial with FC Dallas earlier this season. He played 90 minutes in an exhibition match with USL Premier Development League side West Texas United Sockers on June 9.
"He is an excellent flank player and everything you'd expect from a Brazilian," Gorman said. "He is very quick both physically and mentally. He is also very good at getting crosses in and he is not afraid to shoot."
Jackson traveled to Washington, D.C. with the team on Friday and is eligible to play in Saturday's game at DC United.
