Real Salt Lake Match Preview
August 13, 2010 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Real Salt Lake News Release
SANDY, Utah (Friday, August 13, 2010) - Real Salt Lake (10-4-6; 36 pts. 2nd in West) will look to continue its club record 20-match home unbeaten streak in MLS play when it welcomes the East-leading Columbus Crew (11-4-4; 37 pts. 1st in East) tomorrow, Saturday, August 14. Kickoff for the marquee match-up, presented by Hoopes Vision, is slated for 7:00 p.m. MT for Real Salt Lake's return to Rio Tinto Stadium. Fans that can't make it to Sandy can follow the action live on KUSG 2.2 / Comcast 111 (followed by the America First Credit Union Post-match Report), ESPN 700, ESPN Deportes 1600-AM, and Homero 106.1-FM. RSL's Official Twitter feed will also provide constant updates throughout the contest at www.Twitter.com/RealSaltLake.
Tickets for Saturday's contest remain available and can be purchased online at www.RealSaltLake.com and www.RioTintoStadium.com, over the phone at 801-727-2700, and in person at the Rio Tinto Stadium Box Office from 10:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. on Friday and on gameday beginning at 10:00 a.m. MT.
The history between RSL and Columbus is deep and growing deeper thanks in part to a contentious 0-1 loss for the Utah side in their first meeting of the season in central Ohio back on April 24 and RSL's dethroning of the Crew during last year's Eastern Conference Semifinal Series en route to a MLS Cup title of its own. Real Salt Lake used that result as a springboard, losing just once in 15 League matches since the defeat at Crew Stadium. As an added wrinkle to the growing rivalry, Real Salt Lake's 20-game home undefeated streak is just two away from the MLS record of 22 - set by the Crew across the 2008-09 seasons.
Real Salt Lake's regular season record against Columbus now stands at 3-7-1, while its 2-2-1 mark in the Beehive State includes a 4-1 victory last April 2 in the 2009 Rio Tinto Stadium opener. When factoring in last year's pair of playoff victories - an opening 1-0 win in Sandy and a 3-2 victory in the second leg in Columbus - and a defeat in 2008 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup qualifying play, the Claret-and-Cobalt's overall mark in League and Cup competition against the Crew stands at 5-8-1.
