FC Dallas News Release

Dallas, Tex. – FC Dallas announced today that Feyenoord of the Dutch Eredivisie has purchased the contract of defender Cory Gibbs. Gibbs is scheduled to begin play with his new team on Sunday in Holland. FC Dallas will receive an allocation to compensate for Gibbs’ departure.

The following is a statement from FC Dallas President and General Manager Greg Elliott on the transfer of Gibbs to Feyenoord:

“Feyenoord of the Dutch Eredivisie made a transfer offer for FC Dallas defender Cory Gibbs. Head Coach Colin Clarke and I met with Cory, at which time he expressed his desire to join Feyenoord as he sees that move as the logical next step in his professional career. In light of Cory’s wishes, and following an assessment of the offer, we have given our approval for the transfer to proceed. As compensation for Cory’s transfer, FC Dallas will be receiving a significant replacement allocation. While we are disappointed that Cory will no longer be an FC Dallas player, we thank him for his contributions and wish him nothing but the best at his new club.”

Gibbs, 25, joined Dallas for his first Major League Soccer season last year after spending the previous three years with St. Pauli of the regional Bundesliga. The 6-1, 180-pound defender appeared in 21 matches with Dallas last season, starting in all 21 matches he appeared in and collecting one assist. With 14 career caps on the U.S. National Team, Gibbs was originally acquired by Dallas as an allocation on February 5, 2004.

FC Dallas, a charter member club of Major League Soccer, will begin play in the new 21,193 seat soccer stadium in the spring of 2005. The 117-acre facility will be located at the intersection of Main Street and Dallas North Tollway in Frisco. The Frisco Soccer & Entertainment Center will accommodate Major League Soccer matches, major concerts, international soccer matches and High School football. Adjacent to the stadium will be 17 regulation size, tournament-grade soccer fields which will be utilized on a year-round basis. Join us as we celebrate Major League Soccer’s 10th season.
