FC Dallas News Release
FRISCO, Texas - FC Dallas got a stoppage-time goal from its leading scorer in each of the past three seasons as Blas Perez redirected home a pass from Moises Hernandez in the third minute of extra time to ignite 15,236 opening-day fans with a 1-0 FC Dallas win tonight at Toyota Stadium.
The first chance of the match came in the 10th minute when San Jose's Chris Wondolowski picked off a pass and went straight to goal. The veteran goal scorer struck a hard shot, low to the far corner of the net but FC Dallas goalkeeper Chris Seitz was equal to the challenge and made a diving, two-fisted save to his right side to keep the score tied, 0-0.
FC Dallas came within inches of taking a 1-0 lead in the 18th minute. Victor Ulloa gained control of a loose ball just outside the area and tried his luck with a curling strike sent towards the far post. San Jose goalkeeper David Bingham saw the shot the whole way and was just able to get his left hand on the ball at full stretch, pushing the shot wide of the bar and out for FC Dallas' second corner kick of the match.
Dallas pressured again and was robbed of a lead by San Jose defender Paulo Renato in the 22nd minute. Fabian Castillo set up the chance after collecting the ball in the middle of the field and dribbling around two San Jose defenders. Castillo sent a cutting pass across the area to the back post, where Perez hit a first-touch shot back across the face of goal. Bingham was beat on the play but Renato recovered in time to make a goal-saving block on the goal line.
San Jose nearly took a one-goal lead just three minutes into the second half when Shaun Francis sent a cross in from the left flank. The ball skipped off a pair of players challenging for the ball and fell directly to the feet of Wondolowski, but the forward was unable to keep his shot under the bar.
FC Dallas replied in the 56th minute when Perez combined with Tesho Akindele to set up Mauro Diaz. The Argentine had a try from well outside the area, but his shot also rose above the crossbar and sailed out of play.
Ryan Hollingshead created an opportunity for 2014 MLS Rookie of the Year Tesho Akindele with a header in the 62nd minute. Hollingshead rose above his maker to deliver the ball into the space in front of Akindele, who was a few feet outside the top left corner of the six-yard box. Unfortunately for Dallas, Akindele's shot skipped inches wide of the far post.
Second-half substitute Michael Barrios, who made his first appearance for FC Dallas in the 75th minute, ignited the attack late. Once in the 82nd minute, and again in the 84th minute, Barrios received the ball on the right flank and sent a dangerous ball into the area. Akindele managed to get on the end of both passes, but a save from Bingham in the 84th kept the match level.
