FC Dallas News Release
FRISCO, Texas (Friday, March 16, 2012) - Panamanian National Team head coach Julio Cesar Dely Valés has called FC Dallas flank player Carlos Rodriguez in to represent his country in the upcoming CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying Tournament, the club announced today.
Rodriguez will depart on Tuesday, March 20 and return at the conclusion of Panama's run in the tournament, which is scheduled to run from March 22 to April 2.
Rodriguez joined FC Dallas on Jan. 20, 2012 from Tauro FC after the clubs met twice in CONCACAF Champions League group play last season. The 5'9" midfielder came on in the 31st minute of FC Dallas' 2-1 season-opening victory over Red Bull New York on March 11. Rodriguez recorded one shot on goal in 59 minutes of action.
Rodriguez nearly picked up an assist in his first MLS outing when he came free down the left flank in the 73rd minute. He sent a centering pass to Blas Perez, who one-timed a shot on goal with his left foot, but the attempt was denied by New York goalkeeper Ryan Meara, who made a diving save to his left side to keep the match 2-0 in favor of FC Dallas.
Prior to joining FC Dallas, Rodriguez appeared in three friendlies for the Panamanian National Team. The 21-year-old earned caps against Paraguay on Sept. 2, 2011, Costa Rica on Nov. 11 and The U.S. on Jan. 25, 2012.
